Your engagement session never has to be an over-the-top thing, if you don’t want it to be! Sometimes the best photos come from just embracing your partner as you explore your local small town, which is exactly what we did for Kaileigh and Mason’s romantic Doylestown engagement photos. We always love exploring small towns, like Doylestown, Ambler, or Newtown, because they get us those cute, aesthetically romantic spots, like how you see in Hallmark movies. In places like Doylestown, an everyday side street can make for a really beautiful backdrop for any portrait session, but especially an engagement session. And there is always an opportunity to take romantic photos in front of the local small business, like coffee or book shops; or, in Kaileigh and Mason’s case, a cute little gift shop! While we didn’t go into the gift shop for this session, venturing into these local small businesses allows us to capture some of those Hallmark moments that make your engagement session feel more like a real day-to-day life.
Engagement sessions like this one are also a great way for you and your partner to warm up to the idea of being in front of the camera before your big wedding day. Kaileigh was a bit nervous at first, but we always try to make it a relaxing and enjoyable experience, and we never force you into poses you don’t want to do. We usually just spend about 90 minutes walking around the town as you enjoy the evening, and I’ll, of course, occasionally ask you to “stop and stand there” for a second. But my main goal is to photograph you and your partner authentically, as if it were a romantic date night out on the town. After those initial 10 minutes of feeling awkward in front of the camera, we give you guys the space to just get comfortable with one another, which a lot of times results in being silly with each other. A lot of the laughs you see in my engagement sessions are genuinely shared between the couple! I tend to take A LOT of photos during those intimate and goofy moments, as it results in some of the most natural-looking candid moments. So don’t stress too much over the thought of your engagement session, just try to put all of your focus into being with your favorite person and enjoying the evening together.
