Winter Maternity Photos at Longwood Gardens for Baby #2

A man and a pregnant woman stand close together outdoors, smiling at each other. The man gently places his hand on the woman's baby bump.

The Chandra’s Family contacted me at the very start of the year to schedule their maternity photo session for their second child, and I was so excited when they said they wanted to do the session at one of Pennsylvania’s most iconic and stunning spots – Longwood Gardens. Longwood Gardens is a wonderful photo location choice for any type of session, whether it be maternity, family, or even engagement portraits. This location works great all year round, as they change out their floral displays pretty regularly according to the season. Summer at Longwood is always gorgeous, as all the flowers are in full bloom and cover the entire property. Autumn is always incredible to photograph here because of all the beautiful fall foliage colors and their seasonally-inspired displays. And the best part is, there is so much variety that no two sessions ever look exactly the same! The Springtime creates a magical environment, as all the trees and flowers start to bloom, but I personally find the Winter at Longwood to be the most breathtaking time to visit. A Longwood Christmas is when the property truly shines, particularly due to the unbelievable holiday displays inside the greenhouse, creating a picture-perfect scene!

I will say, I was also excited to get this inquiry in January, as it seems to be a forgotten and uncelebrated time in the world of photo sessions. A lot of people like to fit their winter maternity sessions before the holidays (or if they can, wait until spring hits!), but believe it or not, I think January is a GREAT time to book your winter maternity photos! The winter glow that occurs during January afternoons is an often-overlooked goldmine of breathtaking light. So of course, the cold January day worked just perfectly for the Chandra’s maternity photos at Longwood Gardens. Yeah, there may not have been an abundance of greenery or the bright colors of summer flowers, but the crisp, cool background, along with the warm golden light of the sun setting, made these winter maternity photos stand out in such a unique way.

Not only were we able to capture some great photos of mom, but all of our maternity photo sessions with older children always turn into a family session of sorts. We like to give all older siblings their own spotlight before things change in the next few weeks. I like to make sure that all maternity sessions are as carefree and fun as possible. Now is the time to just soak up what life is like at this exact moment as a family, before another person gets added in. This family’s playful eldest child definitely added a level of unpredictability and gave the parents a glimpse into the future of what life with two would be like. And they couldn’t be more excited!
