Asbury Park Beach Engagement Photos with Their Dog

When Shannon and Matt reached out to us to schedule and plan their summer engagement photo session, there was absolutely no question as to where the perfect location would be! The couple lives in a gorgeous craftsman-style home in Asbury Park, New Jersey, so of course, naturally, we had to capture this lovely and romantic time in their lives just a short walk away from their home! Not only would Asbury Park beach make for breathtaking backdrops, but it also makes the engagement session even more personable and sentimental to them!

When I first met Shannon and Matt for their engagement photos, they mentioned they wanted to include their dog, as he is such a big part of their life together, and I was all for it! And honestly, the beach at Asbury Park is a great spot for a dog, as there is plenty of space for them to roam and find something interesting. The one thing I do recommend if you’re looking to include your pet dog in your engagement photo session is making sure you have a loved one with us for the first 15 minutes or so, that way we can capture all of the photos with the fur-baby first and then they can be taken home to relax and cool down while we continue with the rest of the engagement session. 

It only took a few minutes of cuddling up with their dog and snapping a few photos together before Shannon and Matt fell into a perfectly relaxed rhythm with one another. We took our time playing on the jetty in front of the incredible 1920’s-style Asbury Park Convention Center, which honestly made for such a romantic and unique setting, with the warmth of the sun-kissed beach and the iconic vintage building. The couple was filled with smiles and easy, natural laughter, which looked great for the photos documenting this special time in their lives. They truly just enjoyed the time they were spending together, which made all the photos look filled with energy and love. From there, we walked along the boardwalk, stopping against some of the colorful murals painted by local artists before finishing off the engagement session at dusk against the whimsical backdrop of the old Asbury Park Carousel House. 

The Asbury Park Boardwalk is one of our personal favorites for summer engagement sessions! There is just something about it that makes it stand out from all the other typical South Jersey boardwalks and shorepoints. I think what makes Asbury Park feel so different is the town’s character. While many other New Jersey beach towns have more of a resort-vibe, Asbury truly embraces their retro charm that not only gives photos a lot of personality, but it feels you with an overall feeling of home. The mixture of weathered boardwalk textures, alongside the historic architecture, murals, and big open beach, creates the perfect setting for a mixture of both urban and coastal atmospheres at the same time. There is just so much color and artistry within Asbury Park, it’s hard not to love all of the backdrops the boardwalk has to offer! Between the boardwalk itself, the local bars, and of course, the iconic music venue, The Stone Pony, you have an array of backdrops available to you! Whether you’re searching for a gritty, urban look or a beautiful coastal vibe amongst the sunset, Asbury Park has it all!
