An Elegant Super-8 Wedding Film at a Historic Philadelphia Country Estate

A man in formal attire kisses the hand of a woman in a white wedding dress as they stand on a grassy lawn in front of a brick building.

When I first met with Kaethe & her mom to discus the plans for Kaethe & Chris’ wedding day at Aldie Mansion in Doylestown, I knew immediately that they would be the type of couple that would LOVE our Super-8 film offering. Kaethe just described a day in her mind that sounded as if it could take place a century ago. She and Chris seem to have a very classic, old fashioned vibe to them. Even their careers sound so elegant and classic….Kaethe is a NY Times best selling author and Chris is a former ballet dancer. I mean, come on….how more fairytale romance does it get? So, when Kaethe expressed interest in Super-8 film, I was like “yeah naturally…you have to do it”.

I always go into a wedding shooting Super-8 film a bit nervous because in this digital age where you can take a photo and see it instantaneously to know what you’re getting, Super-8 film doesn’t work that way at all. You shoot a few minutes of film before having to change out the cartridges, you have pretty much no idea how it’s looking, you just have to trust your experience and understand how your equipment works. But because you must have some faith in the process, it has a magic that digital photos and video simply don’t have. When we get the Super-8 film back from our lab it’s so incredible to see how everything turned out. There are moments that I don’t even remember shooting, there are little light flashes in at the beginning and end of the rolls of film that just happened to line up perfectly to a moment that was captured just before a roll of film ran out….things like that which just can’t be planned. And then comes the editing where it’s almost as if the songs that we match to the film were always meant to be a part of these stories. Kaethe & Chris’ wedding film hits all these marks wonderfully. There are moments of magic where the film flickers at the perfect spot, the song peaks at a key moment, Chris spins Kaethe precisely as if it were scripted and known how the movie were to end up ahead of time. It’s just incredible when these little moments align throughout a Super-8 wedding movie. Super-8 film to me, looks like a memory. It looks like what you see in your head when you close your eyes and remember a time from childhood or some moment from years and years ago.  And as I said, Kaethe & Chris were meant to have their wedding shot on Super-8 film and to have these memories captured in this nostalgic way.

You guys, I absolutely adore how this all came together and I hope you and your families feel the same. All my best to you both for a lifetime of happiness and beautiful memories.
