Cape May Beach Family Photos | Sunset Family Session in Cape May, NJ

Two children stand smiling on a sandy beach as part of family photos on Cape May Beach in New Jersey, with adults and teens blurred in the background. The sky is clear and the setting is bright.

Getting to document families through every stage of life is perhaps one of the best parts of being a wedding and family photographer! I first met Liz and Drew during their winter engagement session in Ambler, Pennsylvania, and since then, I’ve gotten the pleasure of photographing them and their families a handful of times. Since our first meeting, I’ve photographed their wedding, as well as their first extended family session in Cape May (on the same beach as this one, actually!) when Liz was pregnant with their son and Drew’s sister, Lizzie, was newly engaged to her partner, Dan. I then went on to photograph Lizzie and Dan’s stunning Parque Ridley Creek wedding, not too long after the family’s first Cape May beach photo session. And then, before I even knew it, I was allowed to photograph all the babies in the family on separate occasions during their newborn stages, truly giving me the opportunity of watching both of Liz and Drew’s kids growing up before my eyes, as well as Lizzie and Dan’s daughter. So I truly mean it when I say I’ve documented this family through almost every stage of life! I have now known everyone for many years on an intimate level, and it always feels like a mini reunion when they invite me around to photograph the whole family once again! When they reached out to me this summer, suggesting another extended family session in Cape May, I knew I wouldn’t want to miss the chance to catch up with some of my long-standing clients (and, you won’t ever get a fight from me when your family invites us down to Cape May during the summer!)

Cape May, New Jersey, is always a great family vacation location for people in the Philadelphia area, and what better way to commemorate all the beautiful summer memories than with a family photo session! Especially with everyone being there at the same time, a family vacation is the perfect opportunity to document everyone all together! Family vacations down the New Jersey shore have the habit of uplifting everyone’s moods, between making the kids happy and giggly, filling the grandparents up with love and appreciation of seeing the whole family together, and giving the parents the chance to relax; it’s the perfect place to capture everyone in their most peaceful and serene state! During a beach family photo session, we of course photograph some of the posed, family formals, but what makes the session so much fun is just letting the kids (and even some of the adults) run around and play on the beach. Simply enjoying the relaxing ocean breeze, the gentle waves, and just the vacation vibes in general make for some of the best natural, candid family photos.

If your family is planning on vacationing in Cape May, New Jersey, and you think you may be interested in generational photos on the beach, I’d love to help you capture this season of life in a natural, relaxed way. Family photo sessions are designed to be easy, fun, and pressure-free, especially for the kids. And you could even make it a loving family tradition, like this family has started doing!
