We are always honored when we are asked to photograph and document multiple weddings within a family dynamic. Lex and Dan come from a very tight-knit, family-oriented community in Delco, and we have had the pleasure of being hired to capture three weddings within Dan’s family! We first met the family when we photographed Kristen’s, Dan’s sister’s, wedding about 10 years ago, and since then, we’ve most recently photographed Lex and Dan’s spring wedding at The Ivy at Ellis Preserve. And just next October, we will be photographing Dan’s brother’s wedding! So it’s been very special to reconnect with the family and see how all of the dynamics have grown and flourished over the years.
Lex and Dan’s spring wedding took place on a perfect, warm May day, surrounded by all of their loved ones and favorite people. There were lots of adorable, heartwarming family moments scattered throughout the day. The first standout moment was when Lex did a scheduled first look with her older brother, following her first look with her father. Lex and her brother are best friends, and it was incredibly sweet to witness and capture him immediately well up with tears as he saw his sister in her wedding attire for the first time. The siblings then did a group hug with their parents in the living room of Lex’s home, which is definitely a moment all of them will remember forever.
The wedding day actually took place on the same weekend as the PGA Championships at Aronimink Golf Club, which is just down the road from the wedding reception venue, The Ivy at Ellis Preserve. So we knew going into the big day that there would be a whole lot of energy and logistics to work with to ensure the most perfect wedding day for Lex and Dan. We carefully curated a timeline that kept the day moving along on schedule, in which we helped work around some obstacles that were presented to us due to the golf championship. In the midst of all the wedding planning, Lex actually found the majority of the locations we utilized for the portraits of the bride and groom, as well as the full wedding party together. When looking nearby, The Ivy at Ellis Preserve, she discovered Stoneleigh Natural Gardens on Instagram, which is near Villanova University. Once she found this spot, we, of course, incorporated it into the timeline and were able to organize a party bus to drive the wedding party over to the location following the ceremony at St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
We all walked the meandering path through the gardens on our way to the Stoneleigh Mansion and were able to capture a good portion of the wedding day portraits there. It was breathtaking, and it made it even more special that the spot was pretty secluded, giving the wedding party time to kind of relax and debrief everything that had already occurred throughout the afternoon. From there, it was time to head over to The Ivy at Ellis Preserve to capture a few more portraits of the bride and groom on the grounds of their luxurious wedding reception venue before the party commenced. We were even able to capture some great drone shots of Lex and Dan for their cinematic feature wedding movie!
The reception at The Ivy at Ellis Preserve was the absolute best way to wrap up Lex and Dan’s beautiful spring wedding day! Everyone was so filled with high-energy, alongside lots of laughter, which combined with all of the heartwarming family-oriented moments, made for the most perfect day for the newlyweds. Dan’s brother, Dave, gave a wonderful, heartfelt toast on how much he looked up to his brother and what an impact Dan has made on his life, which didn’t leave a dry eye in the building. Everything throughout the spring wedding day was beautifully curated and styled, from the perfect powder blue and white color palette noticeable throughout the day, to the custom felt pennant that read “The Wassons” that was draped over the cake table, to, of course, the stylish custom monogrammed dance floor at The Ivy! Our 2nd photographer got a perfect photo of Lex and Dan from the balcony, as they did a dip right in the center of that monogram! The whole spring wedding day was incredibly cinematic and one for the books, and we couldn’t have planned a more perfect wedding day for Lex and Dan. Congratulations you two. We’ll see you again next year!
