Old City Philadelphia Engagement Photos | Merchant Exchange Building & First Bank of the United States

A man and woman walk hand in hand on a cobblestone path outdoors in Old City Philadelphia, surrounded by trees and wooden fences, both smiling—capturing timeless engagement photos.

Returning to your hometown in celebration of your wedding is always so special. You get to revisit your city’s own history, as well as your own personal history. Caroline and Kyle are originally both from Philadelphia, and made the long journey back out here, all the way from California, where they currently live, for their summer engagement session. They met up with me on the gorgeous, warm summer evening in Old City, as they really wanted to have their engagement photos in the midst of all the historic charm Philadelphia has to offer. We strolled throughout Old City’s endless cobblestone streets, and of course, made sure to stop by all of the most iconic landmarks, such as Merchant’s Exchange and The First Bank of the United States. These two spots are pretty sought after for engagement photo sessions and wedding days that occur in Center City Philadelphia. They create a really beautiful, clean slate atmosphere, which is a nice contrast to the business within the surrounding areas of Center City. During engagement sessions, it’s always a priority to take it slow and let the evening flow with ease. We truly embraced the beautiful summer evening in Philadelphia and took the stroll through the city at our own pace, and even ventured down a few hidden streets that allowed plenty of space for Caroline and Kyle to truly embrace one another and enjoy the relaxing summer evening. Then, as the sun started to set, we collectively decided to stop by one of the local pop-up beer gardens nearby. The perfect way to wind down from any photo session in the city is by grabbing a few beers, playing some lawn games, and discussing the plan for their upcoming luxurious fall wedding day at The Franklin Institute

Caroline and Kyle’s upcoming fall wedding day in Philadelphia will take place in just a few months at the iconic Franklin Institute, conveniently located along the Ben Franklin Parkway. If you grew up in or around Philadelphia, then you (and every single other elementary school-aged kid) took at least one (if not many) school field trips to this incredible museum. This iconic museum has been a childhood rite of passage in Philadelphia for decades. A place filled with so much history, natural aesthetics, and, I’m sure, personal memories is a perfect place for a Center City Philadelphia wedding day.

If you’re planning engagement photos in Philadelphia and are drawn to locations with character, history, and a relaxed pace, Old City offers a beautiful balance of all three. Sessions here work especially well for couples who want to spend more time enjoying the experience than worrying about posing, allowing space for genuine moments to unfold naturally.
