Appleford Estate Wedding | A Rainy Summer Garden Wedding in Villanova

Wedding days are always so special when it means uniting two families into one. For Jackie and Ben, it meant bringing two continents together for their Appleford Estate summer wedding day in Villanova, Pennsylvania! Ben is originally from Great Britain, which meant nearly his entire side of the wedding guest list made the trip overseas to attend this joyous wedding day. Jackie and Ben made sure to incorporate subtle British influence throughout their wedding day, especially through the timeless formalwear, with many of their guests in elegant dresses, and Ben’s mother even wore a traditional statement hat! There was an overall feeling of joining Great Britain and America present throughout the day, especially towards the end of the night when the Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes flags came out to send the newlyweds off to start their lives together! 

Despite the threat of a storm coming, Jackie and Ben’s Appleford Estate summer wedding was a joyous occasion, filled with emotional moments and high-energy vibes. As always, we acknowledged the less-than-desirable weather and how it may affect the day, but we didn’t let it stress us out too much. Rain in this part of the country is just a fact of life, and it very well could rain on any wedding day. It’s just one of those elements that we have learned to deal with and accommodate after 20 years of wedding photography. One of the best things we can do as wedding photographers is to help take the stress off the newlywed’s plate. While rain may not be ideal, we can always work around it and modify the timeline if we have to, you will still capture beautiful and timeless wedding photos – rain or no rain. 

Thankfully, a large portion of Jackie and Ben’s wedding day was occurring indoors anyway, so the threat of rain didn’t deter their summer wedding day too much. The storm (for the most part) held off long enough that we were able to squeeze in the bride and groom’s first look under the gorgeous willow tree along the grounds of Appleford Estate. Their romantic first look was filled with high emotions and loads of excitement, before they dove into their private vow reading. We were able to photograph all of Jackie and Ben’s wedding portraits, as well as all of the wedding party photos, exactly as we had planned just before the storm hit the Villanova area. 

While Jackie and Ben had to pivot and hold their ceremony under a tent, as opposed to on the lawn near the pond, it didn’t make the wedding ceremony any less special. The cocktail hour was also shifted into one of the indoor event spaces of Appleford estate, rather than outside as planned, but other than those two minor adjustments, the wedding day was conducted just as planned. It is always especially important to be able to adapt and simply roll with the punches when it comes to photographing wedding days. We have to expect that some elements of any wedding day won’t go exactly as planned. We will always help and adhere to any weather-related change that may arise, and I promise that your day as a whole won’t be ruined – we will work to capture incredible wedding photos for you no matter how the day unfolds. After all, in the end, the weather on your wedding day is just another part of the story that one day you will hopefully look back on and giggle over, because no matter what, we will tell the romantic story of the day for you honestly as it happened.
