Stephanie & Matt’s Backyard Wedding at their Newly Remodeled Home in Philadelphia

At a backyard wedding in Philadelphia, a bride and guests dance energetically under string lights at an outdoor reception. With people holding ribbons and one person blowing bubbles, they celebrate joyfully near the remodeled home.

Stephanie & Matt held their wedding in their very own backyard of the house they had recently updated from the ground up. Stephanie is a realtor in Philadelphia while Matt is a master carpenter and overall home builder. So these two know a thing or two about homes and how to build them. I believe that the renovations on their house in Media were just about completed maybe a week or two before the wedding day. And they did such an incredible job of restoring this old farm house. It really was picture perfect for their backyard wedding and ready to host about 130 of their closest family & friends. Now Stephanie & Matt had one request for their wedding photos. They didn’t want to pose or be asked to “go take photos” at all throughout the day. They truly wanted a 100% candid photography experience so that they could stay present and involved with everyone they invited to share in their day. Music to my ears! Part of the challenge for each of us as photographers is to create beautiful photos that really tell the story of each wedding day in a unique way without posing or staging anything. There are usually a few times during the day where we need to step in and direct a bit for each couple and their wedding parties while still making those directed photos look natural and candid. But Stephanie & Matt wanted ALL candid. And we loved it. It was refreshing for us to be able to just focus on every moment that was happening in front of us and not have that pressure of stepping in to direct a group of people. Don’t get me wrong, the pressure that we put on ourselves during those portraits is that good kind of pressure that keeps you striving for more and better photos every time we leave the house. But to have a day like Stephanie & Matt’s backyard wedding where it truly was absolutely nothing but candid photography was so nice! We can sort of blend into the background and float amongst the guests all evening just picking off stolen moments happening all over the ceremony and reception that otherwise Stephanie & Matt would never see. I was excited to deliver this gallery to Stephanie & Matt so that they could relieve the beautiful day that they created and to see it from so many different angles and perspectives. Thank you guys for trusting us to capture your day in such an organic and natural way!
